Bridal Shower Checklist

Bridal Shower

Source

The custom of throwing bridal showers originated in the 1890s. A bridal shower is a gift-giving party held for a bride-to-be in anticipation of her wedding. Bridal showers are a lot of fun for everyone, but especially the bride! Think of a bridal shower, as a prettier, day version of a Hen Night. The occasion is a great time for a girly day, where all the bridal party can relax before the upcoming nuptials.

Similar to the hen party, the Maid of Honour usually organises the event. It used to be frowned upon for a family member to organise the bridal shower, as people thought they were trying to maximize the gifts and profits to the bride and her family! But, don’t worry, we have moved on from that narrow minded thinking.

  • Decide what date to hold the bridal shower. It can be anywhere from 6 months to a week before the big day.
  • Decide on a location. Will it happen in the bride’s home, a hotel or maybe you will have a weekend away!
  • Set a budget. Even if you decide on a small, intimate event, those little costs all add up!
  • Plan the guest list. Will it be a ladies only event? Or are the guys welcome too?
  • Decide on a theme. This is a great chance to have some fun. Use silly themes that may not be favoured for a wedding. Fancy dress, seasonal themes – Halloween, Christmas etc.
  • Organise food or caterers.
  • Order decorations and flowers.
  • Invite the lovely people from your guest list.
  • Make a playlist.
  • Delegate tasks to other members of the bridal party. You’re not alone, remember!
  • Confirm flowers, food and venue.
  • Show up.
  • Have fun!
