Sugar and Fluff Interview

We are so excited to feature the extremely talented event planning company Sugar and Fluff! Based in Southern California, “The Fluffs” (consisting of sugar, spice and everything nice)  include a trio of Tarek, Andrea and Aasim.

Aasim, took a minute out of the group’s busy schedule to answer some questions for us!

Hey guys, we love your work here in the WeddingDates office! Tell us, what made you get into the world of weddings?

Coming from backgrounds with prominent cultures, weddings are action packed events that run for multiple days. We’ve always been inspired to create a one of a kind experience that invites people into different atmospheres.

How do you feel your Design and Fine Art education has influenced Sugar and Fluff?

Every detail implemented into our events stems back to research in different fields of design. We often look into periods and movements in History like German Expressionism, Art Deco and Surrealism. We love to experiment with different materials and concepts, try to use everyday items and transform them as focal points for centerpieces, guest book tables, etc.

You describe your energy as ‘artistic’ and ‘lively’, what was your favourite event that reflects this energy?

The “Tartan Party” we did earlier this year was a personal event that really represented our aesthetic. With the freedom to design based off our own theme, we got to try new things and test our boundaries. By doing so, we were able to bring a lot of creative energy and branding throughout the party. It was cool to see how guests reacted and interacted with installations we created.

What’s your favourite work break snack?

Caffeine.

Where do you get inspiration for your event themes?

We get our inspiration from a lot of places. We like attending art exhibits, watching movies, going to museums, discovering new music, attending workshops, and reading books. We find inspiration from all these things we enjoy doing. The most important key to inspiration for us is also learning. We never try to stop learning. We try to stay away from wedding trends and be inspired by things that we are very passionate about.

Sometimes there’s so much in planning a wedding, what advice can you give to our brides choosing their wedding theme?

A wedding should always be about the couples’ personality. We like to grab subtle theme elements from movies they like or places they like to visit and eat at. We always encourage our brides to be themselves and the theme will come naturally to them!

We love your sense of humour on Twitter and Facebook, what do you think makes you different from other Event Planning companies?

Thank you! We always wanted to relate to our audience and never come off as a “stuffy” wedding company. We wanted our social media to be fun and an outlet for us to show our personality. We don’t like to drown our audience with soliciting our work or trying to promote our services. We like the human approach to social media and we noticed that our followers enjoy that.

Lastly, what’s your favourite wedding movie?

We really don’t have a favorite wedding movie but we all enjoy the Disney classics where we get a lot of our inspiration from.

Thank you so much for taking a minute to do this Q&A with us!

Anytime!
