Wow! We have had such a great response from these blogs with Focus Hotels that we decided to include a final third part…

The Royal Victoria Hotel

Some couples can fall in love with a wedding venue that may be out of their budget. Would you recommend that they ask for late availability dates if they fall in love with a place?

  • Tewkesbury Park Hotel  – We would always advise that you allow the venue to quote for the budget you have as they may be able to accommodate on different days or suggest some alternatives that would not reflect too much of a difference to your plans.
  • Mercure Hull Royal– Yes! It always worth asking, from the venues point of view, they would rather have a wedding taking place as oppose to an empty room! Let them know the budget you have in mind and they can look at perhaps taking things out of the package that you are not too concerned about or simplifying the drinks package or menu choices.
  • Mercure Stafford Hatherton House – Yes, late availability dates and offers are run throughout the year so always ask the question!
  • The Royal Victoria Hotel – We always try and accommodate the couples and will work with them to adapt our packages to fit within their budget.
  • Mercure Swindon South Marston – Yes, looking at alternative dates i.e. Thursday or Sunday – look at what is more important to you – the date or the venue.
  • Mercure Wolverhampton Goldthorn – Yes, and some hotels do offer discounted rates on lower demand dates.
  • Mercure Telford Madeley Court– Asking for late availability can be beneficial if couples don’t mind booking a short notice wedding. However some couples want time to save for their wedding, so checking dates in quieter months like January and February can also help as some venues have special packages or discounts for these months.

Are there other questions you should ask on availability? For example, how many weddings are booked in one day?

  • Tewkesbury Park Hotel – How many weddings are booked in one day? How many bedrooms are available for guests to stay the evening? Whether the function room is available the day prior to the wedding day for setting up?
  • Mercure Hull Royal – Many venues can take more than one wedding booking on the day. If this is the case, ask them to check the timings of the other wedding so you can work around them to avoid any clashing. Nobody wants two brides meeting in the loos! Also, if the venue offers accommodation and your family and friends wish to stay the night, it is worth asking if the venue can provisionally reserve a block of bedrooms for you to avoid disappointment.
  • Mercure Stafford Hatherton House – Yes. Depending on personal preference, it would be a good idea to ask us if we have any additional weddings on the same day, as some wedding couples prefer to be the only ones to hold their ceremony on their day. Think of things that you may require, for example high chairs, bedrooms and times that you can access the wedding rooms/bedrooms.
  • The Royal Victoria Hotel – We only have one wedding at the hotel at any one time but not every hotel will do that – so, yes, ask!
  • Mercure Swindon South Marston – This depends on size of your venue but if you’re unsure, check with your wedding co-ordinator.
  • Mercure Wolverhampton Goldthorn – Yes you should ask if there are other weddings on the same day, and ask if there is a fee for exclusivity.
  • Mercure Telford Madeley Court – This is always a good question to ask as not all venues offer exclusivity, so it’s better to know in advance if there might be another potential wedding taking place on the same day, rather than being disappointed on their day. Another question to ask about availability of bedrooms on the date that they are looking at, especially if you know that your family are traveling and might need a lot of accommodation.

So… What is the silliest question you have been asked by a couple?

  • Tewkesbury Park Hotel – If they could have Bird’s Eye Fish Fingers and Chips for their wedding breakfast?
  • Mercure Hull Royal – Do we include ourselves in the final numbers?
  • Mercure Stafford Hatherton House– This is a simple answer – there is no silly question!
  • The Royal Victoria Hotel – There aren’t any silly questions.
  • Mercure Swindon South Marston– No question is a silly question the only silly question is one not asked!
  • Mercure Wolverhampton Goldthorn – “If the registrar doesn’t turn up can the hotel’s the master of ceremonies marry us”?
  • Mercure Telford Madeley Court – I get asked all kinds of questions from enquiring into how many windows the venue has to asking if their dog can be part of the wedding party. However, I tell all of my couples that there are no silly questions as I know that by answering these queries I am helping the couple to continue planning their day!
