Portsmouth

If you’re thinking of a seafront wedding in Hampshire, Portsmouth is undoubtedly on your shortlist of perfect places to get married. The only city in the UK that’s an island, Portsmouth melds the historic with the contemporary to create a vibrant, progressive waterfront city filled with ancient relics and traditions as well as modern, cosmopolitan buildings filled with fun restaurants, shopping, bars and places to stay.

Portsmouth is one of the most famous sea ports in the world, and considered the spiritual home of the British Navy. The HMS Victory, Lord Nelson’s flagship during the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, is the oldest extant naval vessel on earth and is a major visitor destination within the Portsmouth Historic Dockyards.  HMS Warrior is one of the first iron-hulled naval ships and is also popular with tourists. More recently the city has also acquired the landmark Spinnaker Tower, with an observation deck giving views of the entire deep-sea port area and much of the city.

Car ferries take visitors to and from the Isle of Wight from here, and Portsmouth is accessible via the M27 motorway, which in turn connects to the M3 near Southampton, and sits at the end of the A3 trunk road from London. Trains come into Portsmouth from  Southampton, London, Gatwick Airport, Bristol and Cardiff.
