Sussex

Sussex is a beautiful place for your nuptials. It's famous for its south downs, chalk hills and chalk cliffs, the most famous of which is at Beachy Head. Based on the South East coast of England, it is steeped in history, abundant with mediaeval castles, palaeolithic sites, and Norman strongholds. It’s the location for the Battle of Hastings in 1066 when the Normans defeated the Saxons and a new era was borne. The main towns are Brighton and Hove, Lewes, Eastbourne and Hastings, but the county is dotted with picturesque villages such as Chichester, Arundel and Horsham. The county has a growing reputation for producing wine, with vineyards running right through from east to west, which perhaps suggests a more temperate climate than some other counties in the UK. Bonfires are also a strong tradition in Sussex. The Lewes Bonfire takes place on November 5th and it’s the biggest in the county. You get to burn your torches and wear costumes for this big event. It's in celebration of the failure of the gunpowder plot in 1605, which was the failed attempt to blow up King James. Yikes!
