Floral Decadence & Hollywood Glam: Julia + Michael's April Wedding

The devil is most certainly in the detail when it comes to weddings, and this bride executed old-fashioned glamour and wistful romance perfectly. From the stationery to the cakes, and the beautiful flower arrangements, everything flowed seamlessly, allowing the bridal party to kick back and relax.

The Proposal

“Michael proposed on April 1st 2015, which was a truly significant date. He proposed with his grandmother’s beautiful solitaire diamond engagement ring, which she had also worn for the duration of her long marriage to his grandfather. April 1st was also the date that Michael’s grandfather had proposed to his grandmother, so he wanted to follow on this tradition, using the same ring. However, he added his own flair by starting the day with various April fool’s jokes designed to trick and terrify me. After a morning of laughter, he went to the cupboard to make my breakfast, and when he turned around from the cupboard, he got down on one knee. I quickly said yes, and then double-checked it wasn’t a joke too!”

The Theme

“I wanted an old fashioned gold glamour vibe with romantic touches. The color palette of gold, accents of creams, soft pinks and maroons definitely helped achieve the overall old-style Hollywood look. We were inspired by bold colors from a styled shoot set in a forest, with strong berry colors and metallics. These colours were the perfect contrast to the leafy greens in our bouquets.”

The Gown

“My wedding gown was a fit and flare, strapless luxurious satin gown designed by Cristiano Lucci. It featured an intricate beaded belt and dramatic beaded skirt. It made me feel so special on the day and complemented our luxurious theme perfectly.”

On The Highlights

“Almost everything at our wedding was DIY! The tablecloths, mirrored seating chart, table numbers, centerpieces, most stationary and favours amongst a range of other things!”
