Croatia Honeymoon Guide: A Romantic Getaway in Dubrovnik

Long walks in warm sunny weather. Romantic evenings at Michelin Star restaurants. Luxurious hotel rooms, where your every need is catered to. Gorgeous architecture, monuments with centuries-old history, charming shops at every corner, cobblestone streets, polite waiters, whimsical souvenirs, glamorous shopping experiences — it’s Paris, right?

Nope. It’s Dubrovnik.

A coastal city in the south of Croatia, Dubrovnik is the perfect blend of luxury, romance, and privacy that every newlywed couple needs. If you think that Paris is overrated if you want an intimate honeymoon experience, if you want an ideal place to celebrate your love — pick Dubrovnik.

Live Like Royalty, While You Cruise the Adriatic Sea

The clear blue waters of the Adriatic Sea deserve to be explored and you and your sweetheart deserve to feel like royalty, while you’re on honeymoon. If you want to sip champagne, while you enjoy relaxing vistas of coastal cities and picturesque ports, then yachting is just the thing. We recommend seeing both Split and Dubrovnik if you’re taking a boat, and stopping by to enjoy one of the numerous seaside restaurants, like Dubravka 1836 (you’ve got to try their oysters).

If you’re taking your yacht, look into professional Croatia yachting management with a luxury yacht concierge service. After all, you are celebrating the beginning of your relationship. Now’s a great time to splurge on something special.

Go On an Intellectual Adventure

You don’t have to be a history buff to enjoy the sheer resplendent beauty of Dubrovnik’s art galleries and museums. If you’re looking to get familiar with Croatian culture, visit the Rupe Ethnographic Museum and you’ll learn all about historic customs and traditional Croatian practices. You’ll also be able to see unique hand-painted textiles and traditional costumes worn by people centuries ago.

Since you’ll be on your honeymoon, you can also check out The Love Stories Museum — a place that’s exclusively dedicated to the celebration of love. It’s centred around personal items that couples have donated to the museum, with each item representing its own unique love story.

Here are a few more suggestions:

  • Sebastian Art Gallery & Art Shop
  • Maritime Museum
  • Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik
  • Croatian Native Art Gallery

Let Out Your Inner Game of Thrones Nerd

If you’re a Game of Thrones fan (or if you just like picturesque medieval castles), take a Game of Thrones Dubrovnik Tour. You’ll see the filming location for King’s Landing, the city of Qarth, and the Iron Throne. This is a walking tour and it takes you through some of the most beautiful parts of Dubrovnik.

Dine on Fresh Seafood

Dubrovnik takes Mediterranean food to a whole new level. If you want to live in a hedonistic paradise for a while, we recommend Azur Dubrovnik. This Michelin Star restaurant will serve you Mediterranean dishes with an Asian twist. We recommend wasabi salmon pouches, cashew nut prawns, and seared tuna.

Other places you might want to check out are Vita Bella, which serves a great variety of pizzas, or Lacroma Restaurant, with their famous Dalmatian smoked ham and cheese with honey, grapes and walnuts.

Here are a few more suggestions:

  • Oyster & Sushi Bar Bota
  • Nautika
  • Restoran Dubrovnik
  • Paparazzo Steak House
  • La Terrazza di Carmen

Enjoy Your Romance in Luxury Hotels

Dubrovnik is practically dripping in opulence when it comes to hotels. You can find quite a few affordable places (like the Petka Hotel), but if you’re looking for five-star accommodations this city excels in hospitality services. The Royal Princess Hotel is one of our favourite options because it’s three minutes away from the beach, and only five kilometres away from Old Town, Dubrovnik’s historic centre.

If you want to enjoy a spa, then the Radisson Blu Resort & Spa is a beautiful choice. There’s a spa and a wellness centre where you can enjoy massages for couples, pampering treatments, gym workouts, or the giant pool where you can lounge with your soulmate.

You can also rent an apartment from Miro Studio Apartments, or check out the Valamar Club or the Hotel Sun Gardens Dubrovnik for slightly more affordable options.

Treat Yourself to Some Celebratory Shopping

What better way to begin your romantic honeymoon than shopping? A little retail therapy will relax you after a long and stressful flight, and you can buy a few items that you can immediately wear as you stroll through Dubrovnik with your boo. You’ll find excellent boutiques in Old Town, especially if you’re looking for high-end fashion.

If you’re looking for souvenirs, try Life According to Kawa, a small shop that sells Croatian-made crafts, or OPG Sardi for some gourmet salts.

Dubrovnik is quite a unique little place to celebrate your honeymoon. It’s just as luxurious as Paris, and yet the atmosphere is a lot more intimate and sunny. For those who want something a little different, this is the place to go.
