Planning your Las Vegas Wedding

When you think about a Las Vegas style wedding, you automatically jump to a wedding chapel with Elvis singing in the background. Although there are many Vegas weddings that are like this, there are also Vegas weddings that are more traditional in a non-traditional location. Here are some integral rules for planning your big day, so that it reflects the style and charm of a Las Vegas wedding.

Location is Key

Vegas weddings are all about the location and in general, those locations involve either the desert or a casino. It is this kitsch backdrop that make saying your ‘I Do’s’ even more fun and if you are looking to have a Sin City inspired wedding, then you should latch onto this also. So, why not start your search by looking at casinos where you are? Let’s face it, there are many to be found and some that offer the grandeur that matches those on The Strip. However, what about if you have found your location, but you want to bring the casino feel into it?

There are many ways that you can set up your venue to look and feel like a high end casino. You can choose round tables, hire waiters to act as Croupiers and choose cocktails that represent the ‘Money’ side of the casino world. One way to make the day truly unique, would be to add a flat screen TV to a wall and have some Live Casino games on going during your reception. Your guests can get involved and it can really set the scene for the rest of the evening.

The Outfits

There are many films that you can take fashion inspiration from for your big day. You only need to watch Martin Scorsese’ Casino, to understand the classically tailored, cocktail feel to the costumes. To bring this idea out through your special day, then start by choosing beautifully tailored, three piece suits that are sharp and crisp. Vegas is all about fun, money and adrenaline – this can be brought out through your menswear, using handkerchiefs and cravats.
For ladies begin your hunt with classic cocktail dresses, like those from the 50’s that are cut off at the ankle. Now, as a bride you may want the fairy tale long white dress, so if this is the case then why not choose bridesmaids dresses cut in this fashion. For colour choices you want to air on the side of decadence. Gold’s and metallic are bang on trend for 2013, but they also scream Las Vegas in more ways than one. These colours can then be brought out through the decorations and furnishings.

The Music

Your first thought will be Elvis, but there are many songs and pieces of music that represent the casino scene. You could choose to be completely obvious such as “Ace of Spades” by Motorhead or “Going to Vegas” by Jimmy Ray. There are hundreds of Vegas inspired songs or casino based/money songs, but a wedding is all about romance and for this we need to head to the soundtracks.

Casino Royale (1967) is one such film with a soundtrack that represents the life of Las Vegas is a traditional way. Take the track “The Look of Love” by Dusty Springfield from the film and you will have not only a romantic track, but you will also have a glimpse at the Vegas of the 60’s.
