The Proposers

When the WeddingDates office got wind of a U.K. business who help plan amazing proposals for couples, we just had to find out more! The Proposers was set up in 2012 by Daisy Amodio, when Daisy’s brother asked for some female guidance when proposing to his now wife, a light bulb lit-up in Daisy’s head. Daisy has now set up the first Proposal Planning company in the UK and Europe! Two years later she has her own TV show about The Proposers, has completed over 200 marriage proposals and expanded globally.

We talked to Daisy about her amazing business, her favourite proposals and if she still cries at the romantic engagements.

The Proposers

When did you set up The Proposers?

“2012 in the middle of the recession. Some people said I was mad, BUT I was passionate and knew I could make it work.”

Where did the idea come from to set up The Proposers?

“THERE WAS SO MANY SIGNS THAT I WAS TO EMBARK ON THIS JOURNEY. My brother had asked me to arrange his proposal as he had no clue how to propose. Not only did I arrange it but I also negotiated a £1000 off the ring. I thoroughly enjoyed this process, it was a heart-warming thing to help with.

A year later, a friend and I were walking through Hyde Park in London when we stumbled across a guy trying to spell ‘MAKE ME THE HAPPIEST MAN ALIVE’ in little tea-lights. However he had spelt ‘happiest’ wrong, and me being a stickler for spellings, ran over to let him know. We then proceeded to help him light all the candles and offered to take pictures of the moment from behind a tree. So we did, he proposed, they have pictures that will last forever, and afterwards he said – ‘YOU LITERALLY SAVED MY PROPOSAL – thank you’

After that I researched and spotted a gap in the market and that was it – The Proposers was born.”

What services do The Proposers provide?

“We offer a range of services.:

  • Need an idea – Some people have no clue how to propose but want something truly unique to them. So we find out all about them and create bespoke ideas that have never-been-done before. We can help as little or as much as possible. From the ideas to full execution.
  • Have an idea – Some people have a great idea but they just don’t know how to execute it, or maybe they don’t want to worry about it – its stressful enough saying those four famous words. We do all the negotiating, book, make, plan the entire thing and even be there on the day to make sure everything runs smoothly.
  • Popular Proposals – Over the years we’ve created some cracking proposals that new clients enquire about. This package means they can select an idea and then we’ll personalise it to them. It’s great for clients who have decided to propose as soon as possible.
  • Romance Concierge – We gain the trust from our clients and they come to us for their birthdays, anniversaries etc. We plan any romantic event. We realised that going to a restaurant every year for your anniversary is predicable, so we can help create something memorable and unique to blow their socks off.”
The Proposers

Who was your first client?

“Our first proposal was weirdly a guy from Hong Kong. We have never been to Hong Kong so we had our work cut-out for us. But nothing stops us creating someone’s special moment. We worked around the clock to research and negotiate and plan the perfect proposal. It was a success and our client and his new fiancé were over the moon.”

The Proposers

How do you find new clients? Word of mouth?

“It’s all about having a unique idea and if it’s different then people want to talk about. We have literally been in every national newspaper and TV/radio interviews right around the world. I think there’s so many horrible things in the press these days that journalists like a nice story and EVERYTHING WE DO HAS A HAPPY ENDING.

The Proposers

Congratulations, on your new TV show! How did this come about, were you over the moon?

“Thank you. It’s amazing to know that my little idea to help create unique moments in a couples life has taken off so much that it’s now on TV for the world to see. Every time the press talked about us, a new production company would contact us and say it would be a good show. 3 months later, we were filming a whole series. The show is very happy and funny but a real tear-jerker (happy tears of course). Here’s a one minute clip of the show, but you will be able to watch them all on our website from January.”

What has been one of your favourite proposals to date?

“We worked with Sham to create a very personalised proposal for Orva. Orva is a keen Artist and loves visiting art galleries, so we helped Sham create their very own gallery of happiness. We created 10 canvases which all had designs of things that matter to them in their relationship and that make Orva happy (For example, she loves penguins and phantom of the opera so one piece of artwork was a painting of a penguin holding a phantom ticket!). The last canvas was covered with velvet and when they reached this one, Sham whipped off the cover to reveal one of Orva’s own designs (which we stole from her pinterest!)  with the words Will you marry me? on it. Their love songs were playing in the background and flowers in cups in the centre of the room – why cups? – because that’s Orva’s nickname.”

Sham said: ”The proposal went like a dream – the venue was beautiful and the setup was perfect. I wanted the day to be both memorable and unique which is exactly how it was so it couldn’t have gone any better! Daisy and Tiffany were simply amazing throughout and I enjoyed working with them to come up with such a personal proposal.”

Is it emotional for your team when couples are getting engaged in front of you? (I think I would cry for all of them!)

“I cry all the time. Its so emotional and very rewarding. The girls always say that they can’t believe our job is to make people happy And I couldn’t agree more. Working in a happy industry is the best thing I ever did. It’s been hard work to get here, but well worth it.”

The Proposers

What do you see for the future of The Proposers? More extravagant events, foreign locations etc?

“So many exciting things in the pipeline. One thing being our Romance Concierge – it’s not just proposals that should be thoughtful, all date nights should be. So we’re working with new and past clients to help arrange special romantic moments too. We’re also launching Postbox Proposals for people with a lower budget but want something different.

Our TV show is currently being shown in 12 countries so who knows what the future holds for us but whatever it is…..we’re excited.”

The Proposers

A huge thanks to Daisy for telling us her wonderful story. This isn’t the last you’ll hear about The Proposers!
