Blush Pink And Pure Elegance: Rachel + Steve's Wedding at Slieve Donard

They say, “When you know, you know.”

After their first date, it didn’t take long for Rachel and Steve to realize they had found “the one.” This lovely pair got engaged in Iceland while on holiday for Rachel’s birthday, and although Steves proposal didn’t go to plan, the two made up for it with a picture perfect wedding day. Rachel and Steve celebrated their nuptials at Slieve Donard Resort and Spa with a party oozing of with elegance. Blush pinks, lots of flowers (including cherry blossom trees!), and shades of gold and white colouring the room- the day was positively sparkling from beginning to end.

Not only was their day stunning, their venue was chosen as it had close ties to both their hearts, making for an even more memorable and heartfelt occasion.

The Beginning

“We were introduced by a mutual friend and went on our first date to the Duke of York followed by Berts Jazz Bar. We just clicked from day one. It sounds cliché but I think you definitely know when you meet the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, and with Steve, I knew from very early on. He makes me laugh every day, he honestly is my soul mate.”

The Proposal

“Steve surprised me with a trip to Iceland for my 30th birthday (the country that is, not the supermarket.) I later learnt that he had big plans to propose under Seljalandsfoss waterfall, however, we got slightly lost on route and never found it. He had a table booked that evening in a beautiful restaurant in Reykjavik where he proposed whilst having cocktails after dinner. To be honest I preferred his Plan B, as it was more intimate and relaxed. He had a fair idea of what I liked in a ring and he did very well.”

The Venue

“To be honest, it was an easy decision when choosing a venue. We have both always loved the Slieve Donard, it holds a lot of great memories for us from celebrating both my Mums and Dads 60th birthdays there.  We met with Stephen the GM and Lauren, Banquets Manager and we had complete confidence that they would help us create our dream day.”

Wedding Attire

“I had a style in mind of what I like, although after visiting numerous bridal shops, my indecisiveness was kicking in. Our final appointment was in Perfect Day in Lurgan, I told the lady what style I was looking for, as soon as I tried my dress on I knew it was ‘the one’. ”

“I wanted something simple but elegant for my bridesmaids. I loved the shoulder detail on these and knew they were perfect as soon as I saw them. Steve went for a dark navy check suit from Remus Uomo and his Groomsmen had navy suits with grey check waistcoats from SD Kells, Larne.”

Wedding Theme

“I wanted the day to be quite elegant with lots of candles and flowers. We had chosen a mixture of cherry blossom trees and floral arrangements on the tables, which looked amazing. I was totally blown away when we walked into the Chandelier suite. The room was literally transformed, it was absolutely stunning.”

Special Thoughts

“The day was perfect! We literally had the best day from start to finish! I wish we could do it all again.”

Highlights Of The Day

“For both of us, it was just such a perfect day. To share it with all the most important people in our lives made it even more special. For me, the ceremony was one of the highlights. We were married by my Mum’s cousin, Canon Robert Clarke, which was very special for us. Robert made the service intimate and emotional but also really fun.”

Bridal Advice

“Relax and enjoy it! It’s a fun experience and shouldn’t be stressful. I was so laid back when planning our wedding because I had complete confidence in the team at the Slieve and all of our suppliers which we had booked.”
