Family First: Amy + Steven's Wedding At Hogarths Solihull

The exceptional story of a truly special couple whose endless love conquered both tough storms and the most joyful moments. Amy and Steven’s special day meant the world and more, their beautiful little family was complete and they finally have their happily ever after. Captured by Prestige Photography, the couple’s strength and engagement story moved us to tears at WeddingDates HQ.

A wedding colour palette of delicate blush pink and on-trend gold details was complemented perfectly by Amy’s stunning mermaid style gown, which flowed into a romantic sweeping train. And her daughter stole the show as flower girl dressed in the prettiest tulle dress and ballerina bun. We just love the below shot of the two on the morning of the big day!

The Beginning

Childhood sweethearts, Amy and Steven met in their early teens and hit it off straight away. At 16, Steven joined the army and the pair didn’t see each other for months on end during his training. But, love prevailed and they would write letters or speak on the phone when possible. In 2010, just before Steven was deployed to Afghanistan for his first tour, Amy fell pregnant with the couple’s first born daughter. After an emotional tour, they were blessed with a healthy baby girl.

In 2012, he was deployed again for a second tour of Afghanistan. Unfortunately, this one did not go to plan. After three months Steven was flown back to the UK after being severely injured…

“This was the worst time of our lives, but we were there for each other, we got each other through it. It showed how strong we are as a couple.”

THE PROPOSAL

“Steven spent three months in hospital after being flown back to the UK. When he was able to, he planned a meal in Marco Pierre White’s restaurant. That evening, we spoke about lots of things; how much we had been through and how much we had overcome. He then took my hand and told me how much he loved me, how grateful he was to have me standing by his side during difficult times and how much he wanted to make me his wife.”

“We didn’t plan our wedding year straight away as Steven, at this point, was wheelchair bound. However, he told me that throughout Afghanistan he was planning the ‘perfect proposal’ in London. He wanted to take me to the London Eye and get down on one knee and ask me to become his wife. Even though I had just said yes, he promised to live up to his plans. As Steven regained his strength and he got stronger and stronger, he held up to that promise. In 2014, we went back to London to see The Lion King in the West End. We went to the London Eye and that’s where he said ‘you know I couldn’t do it in 2013 but I’m not breaking my promise’. He got on one knee and asked me to be his wife (again).”

On The Photographer…

“We absolutely loved Katie of Prestige Photography. She made me feel at ease when I was a bag of nerves, she made sure nothing was ever too much and that each shot we discussed beforehand was taken on the day. So many of our guests thought that me and Katie had known each other before the wedding, just because of how lovely she was! She was so easy to talk to and even helped out with my little one who was eight months at the time. She was so down to earth, making me and my husband laugh, she was never pushy or demanding. Some of the photos we have, I don’t even remember happening, she covered so many things that at the time I hadn’t noticed. Our pictures are so special to us, they are beautiful and we cannot thank the team at Prestige enough.”

The Highlight…

“It was quite funny how during the weeks before our big day, Steven was adamant that he wasn’t going to cry, telling everyone how he would be fine. However, he couldn’t hold back the tears. Although we joke about it together, it was so special. I know how much me and our children mean to him after all he has been through, and after all we have been through together as a family. I get it. There was a time we didn’t know if Steven was going to make it out of hospital, so seeing him there suited and booted, ready to make me his wife, not afraid to show everyone his emotions and how much this day meant to us both. It was very special and I love him more than ever for that.”
