South Ayrshire is a county in Scotland, south west of Glasgow and running along the Firth of Clyde. Its long western coastline conjures images of romantic walks on spectacular beaches and bustling harbour towns. The county also drives straight to the heart of the golf-lover with world class golf links courses at Turnberry and Royal Troon. The largest town in South Ayrshire is Ayr which is known as being at the heart of Robbie Burns Country. The Romantic Poet was born at Alloway, a small village just south of Ayr. He is celebrated as Scotland’s National Bard and brought us poems such as A Red, Red Rose and folk songs such as Auld Lang Syne. The county boasts over 20 ancient castles and ruins, but is also a landscape rich in farming and agriculture. South Ayrshire has a reputation as a bit of a foodie paradise - Ayrshire bacon, Arran Ice Cream, Dunlop cheese and lots of whiskeys, botanicals and ales are on offer as well as the fresh seafood you would expect of a coastal county. The closest airports for wedding guests are at Glasgow Prestwick Airport and at Glasgow International Airport. The A77 is a major road which runs through South Ayrshire connecting Glasgow to Stranraer, where you can meet the ferry to Belfast in Northern Ireland.
