Doncaster
Doncaster is a large town in South Yorkshire which grew to its current size as a centre of coal and the railway industry. It’s also the place which gave the world Mentos and Murray Mints! Doncaster Minster in the town centre is a Grade 1 listed cathedral-sized church building erected in the mid-19th century, partly as a mark of the town’s status as a large commercial and population centre. Today it reigns over a redeveloped town centre, a string of cultural events, theatres and a very busy nightlife scene.
To the east, across the main east coast rail line, you can find scenery and nature in the green belt protected lands towards the coast, as well as Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The town surrounds are also the home of Doncaster Racecourse and the longest-existing horse racing event in the world - the Doncaster Gold Cup, first run in 1766.
Doncaster’s centrally-located for transport links. It sits on the M18 motorway, connecting to the M1 to London. The railway station is on the main east coast line to London, Newcastle and Edinburgh, and additional regional and intercity services connect it to every major desintation in England.
